November 23rd - Ranking the South Park Thanksgiving Episodes.

Peter J. Rendina

The week of Thanksgiving everyone out and about getting those final things ready, prepping for family and friends, ready for a hearty meal and to give thanks for all the many blessings that have been bestowed upon their lives. That being said I am thankful for the opportunity to share this blog with the world and what better way this week than to give you another one of my ranking posts (I know these are totally biased, but I’m sure some agree with me).

Today I will be ranking all the South Park Thanksgiving episodes and giving you a brief overview of why you should watch all of them this week before Turkey day.

4. Black Friday - Season 17 Episode 7

Black Friday isn’t technically a Thanksgiving episode, but it centers around the day after the holiday when deranged shopaholics beat the hell out of each for electronics at rock bottom prices. We have Randy Marsh taking up a mall security guard job to earn some extra holiday cash. The whole episode is a parodying of Game of Thrones and the main security captain informs them of an 80% discount to the first 30 people thus “Winter is coming!”. Mean while the boys are planning to make it in to get this discount in order to obtain the new gaming system. Although they split down the middle of wanting Playstations and Xboxs. The overall episode has many hilarious points including interviews from the psychotic shoppers and Butters insight about Game of thrones will have you rolling. Since there’s really only four Thanksgiving episodes you should definitely put Black Friday on the list.

3. Helen Keller: the Musical! - Season 4 Episode 13

This is without a doubt the most ridiculous Thanksgiving episode (Though it’s south park so that’s saying a lot). We have the fourth Grade class gearing up for the Thanksgiving festival doing the Miracle worker and have to compete against the Kindergarteners who apparently have an extravaganza for the show. Kyle, Stan, Cartman, Kenny and the other kids discuss rewrites to make their play better. They hire Jeffery Manord who is some egotistical stage actor. They decide Helen needs a trick performing turkey, but Timmy (the handicapped kid who can only say his name) wants the handicapped turkey he names Gobbles. Jeffery remembers a Turkey that can perform tricks and Timmy must train Gobbles to compete with the rival. This episode is messed up in so many ways (Timmy plays Helen Keller for one), but if you love South Park like I do then you’ll want to watch this every Thanksgiving.

2. A History Channel Thanksgiving - Season 15 Episode 13

If you’re a Marvel fan then you will be pleasantly surprised that this episode takes it plot straight from the Thor movie. The boys have to write a report on Thanksgiving and what happened at the first Thanksgiving. Instead of writing their report Cartman convinces them to watch the history channel to do the research they need. Apparently there is a theory that aliens were at the first thanksgiving (stuffing obviously is from outer space). The History Channel intercepts the boys report and put them on a show discussing how pilgrims and indians are actually aliens. They go to Plymouth Rock and enter Miles Standish (Thor) who runs into Natalie Portman (This is literally how the episode goes) and needs the boys help to get back to his planet. The Indians have attacked the stuffing mines and now the Pilgrims can’t supply the mortals with stuffing for Thanksgiving. (This is completely normal for South Park). Though it’s a wild episode it’s one that will have you laughing out loud from start to finish.

1. Starvin Marvin - Season 1 Episode 8

Easily ranking this episode one because it’s a classic. Starvin Marvin is one of the earliest episodes that put South Park on the map. We have the boys watching Terrence and Phillip when a feed the children commercial catches their attention. They want the Teiko sports watch they get for sending a donation. In a terrible error the boys are sent a starving Ethiopian boy they name Marvin. They argue over who gets him and split time with him, taking him to see the American culture (all you can eat buffets, ). Meanwhile Mephesto the genetic engineer genetically created some Turkeys for Thanksgiving, but they’re evil and are running all over South Park killing people. This being one of the earliest South Park episodes I have seen may give it some biased in my decision, but it is an absolute classic. Chef’s braveheart speech before defending the town against the Turkeys is also my favorite scene from the episode. If you haven’t seen this episode then you have to be living under a rock, but it is available on HBOmax along with the rest of the South Park episodes.

I hope you enjoyed my take on South Park Thanksgiving and hopefully these will be added to your Thanksgiving content list. Let me know if you agree with my rankings or what your favorite South Park Thanksgiving episode is. As always like, share, and subscribe.

Happy Holidays!
